Your Tumwater dental team at Banner Family Dental wants you to feel as comfortable as possible while you’re in our care. We know that dental anxiety is a very real thing that many of our patients suffer from, so we work hard to put you at ease during your visit. Whether you’re in for your first exam and cleaning in years or you’re having extensive work done, we have a sedation option that will fit your needs and keep you relaxed throughout treatment.
Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a sweet-smelling gas that is inhaled through a mask placed over the nose and mouth. Nitrous oxide creates a sense of well-being and relaxation. You will remain awake and calm throughout the duration of your procedure.
Oral Conscious Sedation
For patients who experience a higher level of dental anxiety, oral conscious sedation may help. Your doctor will prescribe you a pill to take shortly before your appointment. By the time you’re in the dental chair, you will be in a heightened state of relaxation, allowing you to feel comfortable while our team completes your procedure.
For patients who are undergoing gum disease treatment, especially deep cleanings, our dentists in Tumwater use Oraqix® as a localized anesthetic. Oraqix is not injected, but dispensed directly onto gums and into the periodontal (gum) pocket. Oraqix eliminates sensitivity during gum disease treatments, but unlike other local anesthesia which doesn’t wear off for hours, the effects of Oraqix only last around 20 minutes.
Once your procedure is over, we use OraVerse® to reverse the numbing effects of local numbing agents faster than simply letting them wear off. This means you can get back to your daily activities quickly, and without the troubles speaking, eating, and drinking that numbing agents cause.
